AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania (ALPP) is a nonprofit, public interest law firm located in Philadelphia that provides legal representation, advocacy, and referrals to people living with HIV throughout Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.

ALPP seeks applicants for an Intake Paralegal, who serves as the initial contact for callers seeking legal advice and representation with public benefits, consumer matters, immigration, landlord-tenant issues, discrimination, privacy, and estate matters. The Intake Paralegal provides information and referrals to people living with HIV, as well as health care providers and social service workers serving the needs of their clients. Based in Philadelphia, the Intake Paralegal is responsible for conducting intake interviews with Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey callers and provides administrative support to the New Jersey office.

Responsibilities of the Intake Paralegal include:
•Conducting detailed client interviews and provide written narratives;
•Gathering client demographic information and complete intake forms;
•Communicating with clients by letter, email or telephone;
•Attending weekly Intake meetings in Philadelphia;
•Making regular site visits to New Jersey office;
•Sharing telephone reception duties in Philadelphia as needed; and
•Other client follow up and administrative duties as assigned.

•Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience in law, social services or related field;
•Committed “pitch-in” attitude;
•Ability to interact with individuals who are diverse in race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender identity;
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
•Ability to manage a heavy and fast-paced case load and multiple priorities; and
•Spoken Spanish language fluency preferred, but not required.
