Paralegal
AIDS Law Project of
Pennsylvania (ALPP) is a nonprofit, public interest law firm located
in Philadelphia that provides legal representation, advocacy, and
referrals to persons with HIV/AIDS throughout Pennsylvania. ALPP is
seeking applications for the position of Paralegal. We expect this
position to begin as soon as possible and is a two-year position.

Duties: The Paralegal is responsible
for performing intake as well as handling cases involving a variety
of civil legal matters including, but not limited to, housing,
public benefits, consumer matters and trust and estate matters.
S/he is additionally responsible for administrative support in ALPPs
general program issues. There is a clerical component to this
position. Over time, there will be opportunities to take on
additional responsibilities. Duties may include:
1.
Advocating for delivery of services to
clients through on-going communications with all parties to a case;
2.
Maintaining clear and accessible case files;
3.
Preparing for and attending court hearings,
drafting legal motions and correspondence in cases, maintaining
litigation dockets and providing litigation support to staff
attorneys;
4.
Providing updates on issues involving ALPP=s
clientele to staff attorneys and executive director;
5.
Responding to questions and providing
information and referrals to persons infected/affected by
HIV-disease including professionals serving the needs of persons
living with HIV-disease;
6.
Providing content for ALPP=s
newsletter;
7.
Sharing telephone reception, clerical and
administrative tasks as needed, and;
8.
Participating in annual fundraising events
and assisting the staff and Board with these;
9.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Bachelor=s
degree, associate degree, paralegal certificate or equivalent
combination of education and experience in law, social services or
related field; a committed

attitude; ability to interact with individuals who are diverse in
race, sex, class, ethnicity and sexual orientation; excellent verbal
and written communication skills; ability to manage a heavy and
fast-paced case-load and multiple priorities; and, familiarity with
word processing software.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
