Medical and Legal Partnership

The medical-legal partnership (MLP) model combines health and legal services at a single site of care. A multidisciplinary team of professionals works together to address medical and social/legal problems that have an impact on overall health. The AIDS Law Project has medical-legal partnerships with Garden State Infectious Disease Associates in Voorhees. NJ, Prevention Point Philadelphia, the city’s only legal syringe exchange and the Jonathan Lax Treatment Center at Philadelphia FIGHT, the largest primary care provider for people living with HIV in Philadelphia.

Our Southern New Jersey office began more than 25 years ago with an idea to co-locate legal services with health care.  Our New Jersey attorney is based in a medical office that provides health care to people living with HIV. This partnership enables clients to access legal services at the same time and place they are getting health care.

Our partnership at Prevention Point Philadelphia started with a focus on resolving criminal issues and obtaining identification documents, but we now provide a full range of legal services.  We are on-site twice a week to meet with participants.

We are not on-site at the Jonathan Lax Treatment Center, but are just a few blocks away. We collaborate closely with the medical staff to address clients’ legal needs.
